Active Carbon and Oxygen Shell Burning Hydrodynamics

چکیده
We have simulated 2.5×103 seconds of the late evolution of a 23M star with full hydrodynamic behavior. We present the first simulations of a multipleshell burning epoch, including the concurrent evolution and interaction of an oxygen and carbon burning shell. In addition, we have evolved a 3D model of the oxygen burning shell to sufficiently long times (300 seconds) to begin to assess the adequacy of the 2D approximation. We summarize striking new results: (1) strong interactions occur between active carbon and oxygen burning shells, (2) hydrodynamic wave motions in nonconvective regions, generated at the convective-radiative boundaries, are energetically important in both 2D and 3D with important consequences for compositional mixing, and (3) a spectrum of mixed pand g-modes are unambiguously identified with corresponding adiabatic waves in these computational domains. We find that 2D convective motions are exaggerated relative to 3D because of vortex instability in 3D. We discuss the implications for supernova progenitor evolution and symmetry breaking in core collapse. Subject headings: hydrodynamics, turbulence, stars: interiors, core collapse

Flames in Type Ia Supernova: Deflagration-Detonation Transition in the Oxygen Burning Flame
The flame in a Type Ia supernova is a conglomerate structure which, depending on density, may involve separate regions of carbon, oxygen and silicon burning, all propagating in a self-similar, subsonic front. The separation between these three burning regions increases as the density declines until eventually, below about 2 × 10 g cm, only carbon burning remains active, the other two burning ph...
متن کاملThe Convective Urca Process with Implicit Two - Dimensional Hydrodynamics
Consideration of the role of the convective flux in the thermodymics of the convective Urca neutrino loss process in degenerate, convective, quasi-static, carbon-burning cores shows that the convective Urca process slows down the con-vective current around the Urca-shell, but, unlike the " thermal " Urca process, does not reduce the entropy or temperature for a given convective volume. Here we ...
متن کاملEffects of rotation on the helium burning shell source in accreting white dwarfs
We investigate the effects of rotation on the behavior of the helium burning shell source in accreting carbon-oxygen white dwarfs, in the context of the single degenerate Chandrasekhar mass progenitor scenario for Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). We model the evolution of helium accreting white dwarfs of initially 1 M⊙, assuming four different constant accretion rates (2, 3, 5 and 10×10 M⊙/yr). In ...

متن کاملConventional steam activation for conversion of oil palm kernel shell biomass into activated carbon via biochar product
Conventional steam activation pyrolysis of waste materials such as oil palm kernel shell for production of biochar was investigated using central composite design. Conventional steam activation was carried out via an initial carbonization of oil palm kernel shell to obtain biochar and thereafter steam activation of the biochar using the conventional heating to produce activated carbon. Addition...
